This is the great southern pilgrimage: the Meenakshi Amman Temple at Madurai, with its towering painted gopurams and the Hall of a Thousand Pillars, paired with the Ramanathaswamy Temple at Rameswaram — one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the four Char Dham, reached across the sea by the Pamban bridge.
Rameswaram rewards an unhurried visit. The temple's corridor is the longest of any in India, and pilgrims traditionally bathe at the twenty-two theerthams within the complex before darshan.

How the tour flows
Day 1 — Thanjavur to Madurai
We set off in the morning and drive to Madurai, with time at the Meenakshi Amman Temple for the evening darshan. Thiruparankundram — one of the six abodes of Murugan — and Kallazhagar can be added depending on your timing.
Day 2 — Madurai to Rameswaram
On to Rameswaram across the Pamban bridge. The Ramanathaswamy Temple, the twenty-two theerthams and the long corridor take most of the day; we finish at Dhanushkodi at the tip for sunset if you wish.
Day 3 — return (optional)
A relaxed return to Thanjavur, or an extra night if you would like more time at Rameswaram. Many pilgrims prefer three days so the temple visits are unhurried.
